The concrete guys, Ed and Dan, were already working for a couple of hours by the time that I got up this morning. I won’t say what time that was. They formed the foundation and then waited for the concrete truck to deliver the load. Once the truck arrived it was short work for this part of the pour. They’ll come back later to back fill and form for the concrete deck.

After inspection by the concrete people, it was decided that a second dig would be required for the patio foundation. The concrete slab will be 6″ thick, but the actual foundation needed to go to bedrock 4′ down.  At that depth, the hole began to take on water, but aparently that isn’t an issue.

It’s simply amazing to me to have work begin within a week of our arrival, since I couldn’t manage to get anyone interested in the project for the last 10 months. Brian Theriault is a member of my high school class and I am extatic that he and his partners Tom and Dan took on the project. They are all skilled carpenters with a rare work ethic for this area.Â
Today was our groundbreaking day.  Ricky is excavating to the rear of the building so that they can lay the foundation work for the enclosed patio. We decided to concrete the entire area under the patio so that we can use it for storage.

Thanks for stopping in! We’re just getting started. Reconstruction of the gallery should begin this week. Check back often to see our progress.Â
